The opening event on Sunday Evening, December 8 at the DoubleTree Hilton hotel was well attended by an Inspiring group of Remarried couples; coming from Boro Park, Monsey, Crown Heights, Flatbush and Lakewood. They came to hear and experience what MISHPACHTEINU is all about. The atmosphere was a mixture of excitement and wonderment as couples came through the door to register and pick up their registration packet. An array of delectable hot hors d'oeuvres served buffet style alongside tea, confections and fruit for all to enjoy as the crowd came in.
Rabbi Shloime Ehrlich welcomed everyone warmly in his opening speech, making special mention to applaud the courage and effort it took for everyone to come out. The main points highlighted the various goals of Mishpachteinu, addressing the main topics for the upcoming seminars and workshops. He then spoke about the importance of "The United Front"- as the core of the marriage, thereby being the pulse behind the monumental task of merging two families successfully.
The response was electrifying as couples felt validated, appreciated and encouraged like never before.
The group was then divided into two separate rooms. The men went to form a circle and a round table discussion ensued with Rabbi Ehrlich moderating it. The women also sat in a circle as Mrs.Chaya Leah Ehrlich spoke. She talked of mountains and peaks and the prize for all to take. The concept of ' We Arrived' on that beautiful Summit (after an exhausting trek!) and although each person's journey is unique and individual, the one climb we've all chosen to ascend, was finding the courage within to take a leap of faith and remarry! She spoke of "having the ability to have fun" in the often chaotic times. She talked about the importance of cherishing and looking out for the gorgeous break-throughs and unexpected moments of nachas and camaraderie. Her message rang loud and clear- " You were chosen for this task, you can do it, but first you have to nurture your marriage, celebrate your marriage, and invest in your relationship in order to truly be successful. The kids will all eventually fly the nest Beezras HASHEM, AND THE TWO OF YOU WILL LIVE TOGETHER TO SHARE THE NACHAS!"
The Getting To Know You Game was a refreshing way to give everyone a chance to share personal anecdotes, helpful tips and good laughs. All in all, this Mishpachteinu Opening Event was an evening that finally shone a spotlight in Highlighting the Greatness, the Novelty and Awesomeness of what all Remarried Couples commit and devote themselves to.
